Summer fun in San Diego is right around the corner, and we’re ready for it! Having a blast is one thing, but having a blast FOR FREE is even better.

Allow us to introduce you to some of our favorite FREE things to do this summer in San Diego.

FREE Summer Movies Under the Stars

Spend an evening under the stars relaxing with a great movie, family, food and fun. Pro Tip: be sure to arrive early for a good seat. All movies start at dusk (approximately 15 minutes after sunset). There are plenty of options all around the city, but here are some of the upcoming showings closest to our Little Italy hotel:

ALMOST FREE Little Italy Summer Film Festival

For a small donation of $8, enjoy the annual Little Italy Summer Film Festival every Saturday night of the summer from June 22 to August 24 at 7:00 pm. Movies are screened at the Amici Park Amphitheater at W. Date and State Streests, and are presented by Cinema Little Italy. Get more details here.

FREE Live Music

There’s just something about listening to live music that gets our toes tapping! Take in a free concert this summer in San Diego! These are a few of the concerts close to La Pensione or view the whole schedule here:

Twilight in the Park Summer Concerts – June 18 – August 29

Balboa Park’s annual Twilight in the Park Summer Concerts offers a free concert series under the stars on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Twilight concerts feature a mix of musical performances, including military bands, Dixieland jazz, big band swing and Latin salsa.

Mission Hills Summer Concerts in the Park – June 22 – August 30

Put on by the community organizations and businesses every summer, Summer Concerts in the Park is a beloved Friday musical tradition in Mission Hills.

Point Loma Summer Concerts – July 12 – August 9

Families, friends and neighbors will enjoy a picnic and settle in for free concerts at Point Loma Park. This year’s Point Loma Summer Concerts lineup promises to please a variety of musical tastes including young talent on the “Junior Stage”.

Marine Band San Diego Summer Concert – August 3

Speaking of live music, dont’ miss the Marine Band San Diego Summer Concert in Little Italy! It’s happening on Saturday, August 3 from 6:00 pm to dusk.  It will be held in the new Piazza della Famiglia at West Date Street between India and Columbia streets, right by our Little Italy hotel! International Summer Organ Festival

Fun Fact: La Pensione Hotel is a proud sponsor of the Summer Organ Pavillion concerts in Balboa Park! All concerts on the Spreckels Organ are free to the public in accordance with the original Deed of Gift by John and Adolph Spreckels. Concerts are held every Sunday at 2 p.m. for one hour (rain or shine) and on Monday nights comprising the International Summer Organ Festival – concerts will take place at 7:30 pm on Mondays from late June through the end of August. At least 62 concerts are scheduled during a typical year.

FREE Yoga Classes

It’s a fact that San Diego is home to many beaches and parks, which happen to be perfect for outdoor yoga! Check with Eventbrite for a comprehensive list of places to catch a free yoga class throughout San Diego this summer, both indoors and outside. NAMASTE, Yogis!

FREE Splashing and Sunshine at Waterfront Park

Stroll a couple of blocks from our hotel in the heart of Little Italy and have a splash at Waterfront Park! The kids will love the waterplay and you’ll appreciate the views while soaking in that summer sunshine. Waterfront Park also hosts a variety of concerts, festivals and events, so check the schedule to see if one catches your interest.
