Your December To-Do List

San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood is known for its holiday traditions, festive decor, and seasonal vendors. Families, friends and neighbors are invited to kick-off this holiday season with the 21st annual Little Italy Tree Lighting and Christmas Village on Saturday, December 7 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. All of India Street will be decked out in sparkling white lights—making Little Italy a true winter wonderland. There will also be Christmas carolers, 10-foot tall nutcrackers on street corners and more seasonal surprises throughout the neighborhood!

Fun for the Whole Family

You won’t want to miss the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6:30 pm which will reveal a new custom Christmas tree, located in the center of Piazza Basilone. The 25-foot tall Christmas tree was designed by California artist, Joshua Hubert, and will dazzle like a disco ball with all different colors shining bright throughout the entire evening.

Nearby, America’s largest balloon parade returns on December 26, 2019 at 3:00 pm. Beginning near the County Administration Building, the parade runs south on Harbor Drive. Marching bands, floats, drill teams and giant balloons float down San Diego’s beautiful waterfront in celebration of the Holiday Bowl. Over 100,000 street-side spectators will enjoy the parade along with a nationwide television audience. Street side viewing of the parade is FREE, though Grandstand Tickets are recommended for picture-perfect viewing.

Fun for the Sports Fan

Have you been to America’s Finest Bowl Experience? The Holiday Bowl is San Diego’s signature event annually showcasing a thrilling game between some of college football’s most competitive conferences, the Big Ten and the Pac-12. Fans can enjoy the ultimate pregame party, the Dexcom Pregame Party, featuring a craft beer garden, food trucks and an interactive college football experience.  Teams will be announced on December 8. Reserve your tickets today!

Looking for something a little “cooler”? Experience Winter Paradice, San Diego-style, at the Fleet Science Center, November 23–January 26! Take a glide session on the new synthetic ice rink (you know, because it’s science), then continue the fun by jumping in the ball pit or sliding down a 31-foot slide in the adult-sized playground exhibition, Pause|Play. As a holiday treat, ice skating is included with your Fleet admission!

If being a spectator is more your speed, the San Diego Ice Arena’s 28th Annual Christmas show takes place on December 14, 2019 and offers holiday-themed entertainment for the whole family. And for the ice hockey fans in your life, the San Diego Gulls have a full lineup this month with several home games. Reserve your tickets while they last!

Don’t forget to make La Pensione Hotel your basecamp for the holidays!
